Maria was trained and certified in Canada and has worked in ESL for over 12 years as an instructor, trainer and curriculum developer.
As an IELTS certified examiner, Maria received her specialty in CLIL methodology by creating and instructing a unique Grade 12 EAP (English for Academic Purposes) program designed to prepare Russian students for a college or university in Canada.
Maria is currently working for Memorial International School of Tirana as a middle school form teacher. She has been tasked with creating a unique ESL ‘bridge’ program that will develop A1 – A2 students in their vocabulary and comprehension for mainstreaming into their regular grades in the 2018 – 2019 school year. Using CLIL methodology, students are taught English, History, Geography and Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). A strong focus is given to reading comprehension and vocabulary since these skills are needed across subjects.
After Term 1 assessments, over 80% of students are on track to be mainstreamed next year.
